Shane Herath, Chair of the Eco-Friendly Web Alliance (EFWA), served as a judge at the SME National Business Awards 2025, reflecting his continued leadership in advancing sustainability across the UK’s business and technology landscape.

The awards ceremony took place on 7 November 2025 at the prestigious QEII Centre in Westminster, London, bringing together forward-thinking businesses from across the country. EFWA also participated as a Silver Sponsor, reinforcing its commitment to supporting organisations that place environmental and social responsibility at the core of their operations.

Shane’s role on the judging panel builds on years of work at the intersection of digital innovation and sustainability. He has collaborated extensively with organisations, industry groups, and academic institutions to promote a cleaner, greener internet, IT sustainability, and responsible digital practices. As a judge, he contributed to evaluating businesses demonstrating meaningful progress in sustainability, innovation, and long- term impact.

During the ceremony, Shane presented the Gold and Silver awards in the Sustainability category, recognising organisations that are setting a strong example for responsible entrepreneurship in the UK.

“It was a privilege to serve on the jury and witness first-hand the level of commitment shown by businesses across the UK,” said Shane. “There is a clear shift towards accountability and long-term thinking, with organisations increasingly embedding sustainability into their core strategies rather than treating it as an afterthought.”

The SME National Business Awards continue to highlight the achievements of ambitious and resilient businesses shaping a more sustainable UK economy. Shane’s involvement as both a judge and representative of a sponsoring organisation reflects EFWA’s ongoing role in supporting and celebrating progress towards a more responsible business ecosystem.

Through its work, EFWA remains focused on raising awareness of digital emissions, promoting practical solutions, and encouraging collaboration across sectors to drive measurable change.
