Important Announcement: Changes to our Website Accreditation Name

21 February 2024

[London, 21 Feb. 24] — We wish to inform stakeholders that, effective 11th of March 2024, we will be rebranding our Carbon-Conscious Website Accreditation to the Carbon-Conscious Website Accreditation.

As a responsible entity dedicated to addressing digital carbon emissions, we have carefully considered feedback from our clients and community. This decision aligns with our commitment to adapt to the evolving regulatory landscape and avoid potential greenwashing risks.

The change in name is motivated by the recognition that terms such as "net-zero," "carbon-neutral," and "carbon-negative" have received official definitions, while others in the market lack clarity, leading to ambiguity. The previous term, 'Climate-Positive Website,' though positive in connotation, was found to lack specificity.

The new name, 'Carbon-Conscious Website,' has been chosen to better reflect our commitment to concrete, measurable action against digital carbon emissions and more specifically website related emissions. Through this adjustment, we seek to empower our members, partners, and community with a clear sense of purpose, galvanising our collective efforts towards a cleaner, greener internet for all.

By 11th of March 2024, all references to the Carbon-Conscious Website Accreditation across our platform, website, communication resources, social media assets, badges, and more will transition seamlessly to the new designation, Carbon-Conscious Website. It is important to note that this name change will not impact pricing of accreditations; the cost of our services will remain unchanged. We will also continue to support registered charities, select non-profits, and public sector organisations in the state sector at no cost as we have done for the past two years.

Our rebranding represents a change in our outlook. While 'climate-positive' highlighted our focus on reducing environmental impact and taking responsibility for more carbon that the website is estimated to produce annually, our adoption of the name Carbon-Conscious Website underscores a broader commitment to promoting proactive and sustainable practices.

We invite both new and existing clients to take note of this transition.

This shift from 'Climate Positive Website' to 'Carbon-Conscious Website' represents a notable milestone in our journey towards a cleaner, greener internet. Through transparency, commitment, and fostering a community of change-makers, we aim to inspire others to join us in this important mission.
